Paws for a Chat

Sometimes the best conversations happen with a friendly dog nearby.
Paws for a Chat is a relaxed social visit where Winnie or Goose become part of the conversation. Whether people are enjoying a cup of tea, chatting with friends, sharing stories or simply spending time together, the dogs help create a calm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can feel included.
There is no set programme and no expectation to interact with the dogs in any particular way. Some people enjoy saying hello, while others simply enjoy having Winnie or Goose nearby as conversations unfold naturally. Every visit is guided, thoughtfully planned and adapted to suit the people, the setting and the welfare of the dogs

Planning Your Paws for a Chat Visit

Every Paws for a Chat visit is thoughtfully planned around the people attending, the setting and the welfare of Winnie and Goose.

Supporting Communication, Gentle Movement & Engagement

For some people, Winnie and Goose provide a natural focus for communication, gentle movement and engagement. Their calm, friendly nature can encourage participation in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

Activities may include inviting Winnie or Goose to find a favourite toy, choosing between familiar objects, gently throwing a soft ball for Goose to retrieve, reading aloud, or simply spending quiet time together.

These shared moments can encourage communication, listening, turn-taking, choice-making and purposeful movement, while creating meaningful opportunities for participation.

Some people also enjoy using Winnie or Goose as a calm focus for quiet moments, such as sitting together, noticing their gentle breathing or taking slow, relaxed breaths alongside them. Others may simply enjoy stroking them or quietly sha
ring their company. Where appropriate, teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, support workers, activity coordinators and other professionals may choose to incorporate these moments into activities they are already leading. Responsibility for any therapeutic, educational or clinical goals remains with the relevant professional or organisation.
